Kylie's bum recognised as work of art

Kylie Minogue’s famed bottom is to take centre stage at a renowned high-brow art exhibition in Britain.

The Aussie singer’s pert behind, clad in her notorious skimpy gold hotpants, features in the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition which opens on Monday.

The photograph, taken from her Spinning Around video, is part of a work called Consumerism 2 by Dilek O’Keefe.

An illustration of Minogue in the revealing white gown she donned for her Can’t Get You Out Of My Head video dominated the print, valued at £475 (€660).

And the cheeky artist implies that Minogue has to read her lines from her songs. On her palm is written “na na na nan na na na, na na na nan na na na” - the chorus from chart-topper Can’t Get You Out Of My Head.

Other wacky works at the Summer Exhibition – held annually since 1768 - include a crucifix made of jelly babies.

The artwork by Mauro Perucchetti features the colourful sweets set in resin, with a price tag of £10,500 (€14,604).

More than 1,200 creations are gathered together for the display at the famed institution in London’s Piccadilly.

Newcomers and established artists feature in the event, the largest open contemporary art exhibition in the world.

Famed artists whose works are in the exhibition include Jake And Dinos Chapman who have two bronze sculptures, both painted to disguise the material fro m which they are made.

One is of an easel and the other a figure which looks as though it is made of clay.

Former chart star Holly Johnson of Frankie Goes To Hollywood has two of his works on display – one a lithograph of a fairground carousel unicorn bearing a picture of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Some of the most striking works are from David Mach who has created an enormous fire-eating sculpture in the Royal Academy courtyard.

The 10ft sculpture is positioned on a plinth and shoots a plume of flames into the air at regular intervals.

He has also created a large figure made from wire coathangers as well as three photomontages which dominate one gallery.

One of these, entitled Palais De Plaisir, features several nude figures outside Buckingham Palace.

The exhibition continues to August 10.
