Rock bad boy Liam Gallagher looks likely to have his first self-penned number one single this weekend, figures showed today.

His band Oasis’s track Songbird is heading for the top to give the band their seventh number one, displacing controversial duo Tatu.

It will be the band’s first chart-topper since last April with The Hindu Times.

Liam – who lost his front teeth in a fight in December – only tried his hand at songwriting on the group’s fourth album Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants with the track Little James.

The snappy acoustic track Songbird is the first of his songs to be released as a single and was inspired by fiancee Nicole Appleton. She makes an appearance in the video.

Liam’s brother Noel usually takes care of songwriting duties.
