The perfect gentleman returns
Hot from his arrest a fortnight ago for disorderly conduct at a New York rally, hip hop star Wyclef Jean is releasing his romantic duet with City High's Claudette Ortiz, Two Wrongs (Don't Make A Right) to whet the appetite for his forthcoming album Masquerade,
It's his first major release since his version of Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here last Christmas and should provide the rapper with another smash hit. He says he was inspired to write the song by a friend's unwavering love for his girlfriend.
"It's about relationships and getting into an argument," Wyclef explains. "A friend of mine left the house once and came back and his girl was like 'Where the hell you been?' He was pretty vague so he got a slap. He smacked her back and she ran to the phone and called the police.
"In New York when a woman calls the police they don't ask questions so they came round and locked him up for a week. I bail him out of prison and straight away he got me to take him to the jewellery store where he bought a ring. Then he says, 'Take me to my girl's house.'
"I was like 'This girl put you in prison and the judge said you're not allowed within 100 feet of the house.' But still he wanted to go. I dropped him off and took off, I wasn't going to get arrested with him.
"She opened the door and he gets on his knees and asks her to marry him. Then he rings me and I'm saying 'You stupid idiot, she put you in prison.' And he said, 'Yeah but two wrongs don't make it right'. I was like 'That sounds like a song..."'
Two Wrongs (Don't Make A Right) is released on June 17.
