Hugh: I won't be Godfather to Liz's baby

Hugh Grant is denying reports he will be godfather to ex-girlfriend Liz Hurley's baby.

Hugh, who was attending a screen writers' awards ceremony, says he had seen Liz very briefly when he was in Los Angeles recently.

"She seemed fine, very well," he said.

But asked about reports that he would be playing a surrogate father role to Liz's baby by American millionaire Steve Bing, he added:

"Absolutely not. I find that a slightly patronising invention."

"I'm not being a godfather," the star added.

Hugh was among a host of celebrities attending the annual Oscar Moore Screenwriting Prize ceremony in London's Leicester Square.
