Microsoft will not block fan-made Halo game
Companies like Microsoft are usually extremely protective of their intellectual property, especially when it’s a brand as iconic as the Halo series. However, in a rare move, Microsoft, owner of Halo, and 343 Industries, the game’s current lead developer, have agreed to permit a grassroots team of game enthusiasts to proceed with the release of their Halo tribute, which brings the game to the PC and seeks to replicate the classic Halo 2 and 3 multiplayer experience.
Dubbed Installation 01 the game will be allowed to use content ripped directly from older Halo games with the caveat that its developers can never make any sort of money from their creation. They may not take donations or engage in crowdfunding, and are also barred from selling merchandise relating to the game, let alone charging for the game itself. No release date is set, but a trailer has been released.
