Apple linked to acquisition of Jay Z's Tidal
The Wall Street Journal cites people familiar with the matter who say that Apple is hoping to bolster its music offerings; Tidal has exclusive deals and strong connections with artists such as Kanye West, Beyonce, and Madonna. Tidal is also the only streaming service to offer the catalog of Prince.
However, it's uncertain if an agreement will actually be reached. The Wall Street Journal's sources say that the talks are ongoing and may not result in a deal. Meanwhile, a Tidal spokesperson has denied that the company has been speaking to Apple.
This isn't the first time that Tidal has engaged in exploratory talks; last year, it spoke with other potential partners, including Rhapsody, now called Napster.
