Huawei working on own mobile OS

Huawei is reportedly developing its very own mobile operating system.

Huawei working on own mobile OS

It's early days yet, according to sources who spoke with The Information. They say that the OS "isn't far along."

What seems more pressing is a redesign of Huawei's Emotion UI, which currently sits atop the Android OS. Huawei has hired Apple designer Abigail Brody who is being tasked with changing the look of the skin. It is suggested that the redesign could add an app drawer, redesign the icons, and implement a new, "very clean, fresh" colour palette.

Huawei has a track record of independence. It currently manufactures its own Kirin chips, which powers many of its handsets, rather than relying on an outside manufacturer. It isn't all that surprising that it would like to reduce its reliance on Android OS by striking out on its own.

We should see more about the Emotion UI redesign in September, while the Huawei OS could be a little further off.
