Our first thoughts are a bit mixed. It definitely looks like a glossy production (and it should with a budget over €100 million) and the presence of Michael Fassbender as well as the likes of Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons are plus points.
The story is sketched in vague terms here but involves some kind of sci-fi method for getting the lead character back into the body of his ancestor. For some reason this involves a crazy looking articulated arm thing.
Presumably that's a way to allow Fassbender's Callum total freedom of movement within the Animus program, and it might also be a way of tracking what he does in order to learn those fancy parkour and fighting skills.
Long time fans of the game might remember that the Animus was used as a tool by Abstergo in the first few entries to discover useful information about the past. It's interesting to see that plot point re-emerge, let's hope they do something halfway decent with it.
Otherwise there's a lot of parkouring to little effect as well as slow motion, wrist blades and jumping from tall buildings. From this perspective it looks like a few too many homages to the game but we'll have to wait and see.
Assassin's Creed the movie is in cinemas in December 2016.
