Batman v Superman takes in $420 million in a weekend!

That's a staggering amount of money, and shows that audiences had a huge curiousity for this DC universe superhero cross over. That bodes well for the future of the brand, which will be introducing a number of popular and obscure characters to the big screeen over the next few years before bringing them all together with two Justice League movies in 2017 and 2019.

That haul was enough to make the film the biggest domestic (meaning US) opening for Warner Bros ever, and that's saying something from the company behind the Harry Potter series. Batman v Superman also nabbed $254 million at cinemas in the rest of the world, good for the fifth highest global opening of all time behind Pirates 4, Star Wars 7, Harry Potter 8 and current leader Jurassic World.
