VHI’s Dr Bernadette Carr answers your questions

I am in my early 30s and planning to start a family. I know I am overweight and would like to loose some weight. Should I start by visiting my GP for a general check up?

VHI’s Dr Bernadette Carr answers your questions

Getting healthy to get pregnant is important and you are making a very sensible decision.

It is possible to increase your chances of getting pregnant if you are in good health. I would advise you to make an appointment with your GP who can advise on any lifestyle changes you should make. You can check that all your necessary immunisations are up to date and get your questions answered. If you are taking any medication, prescription or over-the-counter,then make sure to tell your GP.
