At sunset Mother rabbit calls in her youngsters for bed. As the nightbirds sing their lullabies to the woodland creatures, the rabbit family have their supper, tidy their toys, chat about their day and get ready for bed. The anthropomorphic cuddly characters will appeal to the very young. The tale is told in simple rhythmic verse and splendidly illustrated by Anna Currey.
Captain Wag and the Polar Bears by Michael Terry (Bloomsbury €8.80). Captain Wag picks up a floating bottle with a desperate message inside from old pirate enemy, Ginger Tom. His note is an urgent appeal for help – his ship is stuck in ice and surrounded by angry polar bears. The Gallant Captain and his fearless crew brave the icy sea and whirling snowstorms to rescue the pirates. They eventually find the snowbound ship and the angry polar bears. But why are they angry? The well-rounded story and endearing pictures are a joy. An added bonus for creativity is a selection of character stickers and a full-spread landscape to set them on an adventure. Age 3+
