National Rowing Centre to be celebrated in Cork
Ballincollig Business Association (BBA) said they wanted to recognise the outstanding achievements of, and the work being done, at the national training centre in nearby Farran Wood.
The recent successes of the Irish team at the Olympics and the World Championships, and in particular the silver and gold medals earned by the West Cork brothers, Paul O’Donovan and Gary O’Donovan, have elevated the sport to national prominence, with more and more people interested in getting involved.
The BBA event will offer its members and other invited guests an opportunity to hear first-hand the preparation and training required to achieve success at the top level.
Hamish Adams, CEO at the National Rowing Centre, will be joined by some of the Irish rowing team to give an in-depth look at the sport and the importance of work done at the National Rowing Centre.
The event will be chaired by TV3 presenter Paul Byrne.
Emer Cassidy, chairwoman of the BBA, said they are delighted to have an opportunity to acknowledge the fantastic work being done at the National Rowing Centre.
“It has been somewhat of a hidden secret up to recently when the sport made headlines this summer thanks to medal wins in Rio and Rotterdam,” she said.
“We’re very lucky to have this wonderful facility on our doorstep and I’m particularly looking forward to hearing about what it’s like to compete and represent your country on a world stage.”
The breakfast event takes place at the Oriel Hotel tomorrow morning.
The Ballincollig Business Association is the voice of the business community in the town and environs and encourages growth in the local economy.
