Beer of the week: Porterhouse Plain Porter
Bradleys, Porterhouse Cork, Carry Out Bandon Road, World Wide Wines, Baggot Street Wines
Hughes founded the Porterhouse Group over 25 years ago and the Plain Porter was one of their first beers.
There are now Porterhouse bars in London and New York and they remain true to Hughes’ original idea — fine quality beer that actually has flavour.
Also watch for his excellent Dingle Gin and Vodka.
Plain Porter pours with a light creamy head and smoky roasted coffee aromas.
This is soft on the palate with a nice richness and some lovely clean bitter notes on the finish.
I particularly like the lingering dark fruity flavours — chargrilled blackcurrants if such a thing exists.
