Spirit of the week: Spirit of Dublin Irish Poitín, 52.5% ABV, 50cl — €34.99

A limited release Poitín from Teelings Whiskey Distillery in Dublin which opened in March last year in Dublin’s Liberties.

This is triple distilled in their copper pot stills for extra smoothness and made from 50/50 malted and unmalted barley.

Aromas of freshly mown hay with a herbal green fruit edge, very smooth on the palate with a light malted milk biscuity flavour.

This is quite strong but can be sipped neat or used as a base for cocktails.

I’ve had success mixing it with a splash of Cointreau and a dash of bitters, with Fever Tree Elderflower tonic over ice, and as a replacement for whiskey in an Old Fashioned Cocktail.
