Craft brew festival to whet artisan beer-lovers’ thirst in Cork

Lovers of craft brews will be saying cheers to a new festival in Cork this Easter which will also feature locally produced artisan food and toe-tapping live music.

The iconic Old Thompson’s Bakery in MacCurtain St will be headquarters of the BrewFest which will run from April 1-5, excluding Good Friday.

Cork will be on tap with a suite of 50 locally brewed beers, stouts, ales, ciders, and wheat beers.

Festival organiser Daryl Cronin said Brewfest was proud to give Cork breweries a chance to showcase their excellent beers in a fun, social environment.

“Festivalgoers can expect to see the top brewers, from Eight Degrees Brewing to Blacks of Kinsale Brewery, Stonewell Irish Craft Cider, Cotton Ball Brewery, Rising Sons Brewery, 9 White Deer, as well as the well-known Murphys and Beamish Stouts and many others,” said Mr Cronin.

“With several of Cork’s top favourite street food vendors on site also, the event promises to whet all appetites in an atmospheric and lively way. We are expecting an influx of people to Cork this Easter week where guests can sample a host of locally brewed beers in a rustic style beer hall with lots of unique decor, wooden casks, long benches and tables where table service will be provided through-out to truly enhance the experience.”

The city boasts several new craft brewers, a growing phenomenon in Ireland.

Usually handmade, with a human interest story behind each brew, those who sample the beers are also interested in learning about ingredients and quality.

Entertainment will be provided by singer/songwriter Pat Fitz, as well as a number of local brass bands and traditional Irish musicians including Irish acoustic folk rock band Hermitage Green.
