The plot features an elevated site with spectacular views to the southwest of Bantry Bay and surrounding peninsulas.

Located in one of the most scenic parts of West Cork, a 74.9-acre farm outside Bantry is described by the selling agent as a “once-in-a-generation opportunity to acquire a land holding with traditional dwelling and outbuildings.”

It’s certainly true that large holdings such as this one come on the market only rarely in this particular part of the world, and there are already enquiries locally and from abroad.

The 75-acre farm has 4.5km east of Bantry at Cahernacrin and has a derelict traditional dwelling, with a number of outbuildings.

According to Denis Harrington of Bantry-based Harrington Estates, the farm is in an area that offers good land and strong aesthetic qualities, featuring an elevated site with spectacular views to the southwest of Bantry Bay and surrounding peninsulas.

It is 4.5km east of Bantry at Cahernacrin and has a derelict traditional dwelling, with a number of outbuildings.

“There are a number of good quality grass fields,” said Mr Harrington, “and a mixture of more open hillside ground.”

With roughly half of the acreage under hilly lands, the remaining 35–40 acres contain quality lands with strong potential to be brought to their optimum level.

The property is in two lots. The larger one comprises approximately 68 acres. It bounds a small lake of its own and is accessed via a shared laneway from the public road.

Separately, the 6.5-acre parcel comprising the second lot bounds the larger Drombrow Lake — across the public road to the north of the larger lot.

Access is via a shared laneway, but the farm also has road frontage, allowing potential for another entrance in the future.

The property is new to the market, but already interest is keen. This kind of farmstead is of interest not only to those seeking additional acres, but also those looking to make a lifestyle choice — a pattern seen in many parts of Munster lately.

The price guide is €575,000. At a level of just under €8,000/acre, it’s a fair reflection of the land alone. The addition of a dwelling in such a choice location, however, is a factor that is likely to play positively on the final price achieved.
