SSE Airtricity Premier Division: Galway United 2 Bohemians 4

Dawson Devoy marked his first Ireland call-up with a goal and an assist as Bohemians picked up three vital points in Galway on Friday evening.

The away side enjoyed the majority of first-half possession and they were rewarded for their efforts when a Harry Vaughan pass found Devoy in space on the edge of the Galway area, the Ashbourne native curling a shot in the top right corner to give Bohs an early lead.

Galway were visibly stunned and Bohemians took full advantage, an excellent interchange between Vaughan and Devoy found Douglas James-Taylor in the box and he slotted home to double the away side’s lead heading into the break.

Caulfield made three half-time changes, and the home side should have pulled one back when Twardek latched onto a loose ball only to blaze over. The Canadian gave the home side a new threat on the right hand side, and the Tribesmen’s top scorer turned creator on the hour mark when his cross was met by the head of Ed McCarthy to pull one back for Galway.

The home support erupted, but despite several opportunities to level the game, it was Bohemians who struck again - a weaving run from substitute Parsons opened up the Galway defence to find Ross Tierney who bundled the ball home and restored his side’s two-goal advantage.

Galway responded in style, McCarthy evading two Bohemians players with a brilliant turn before unleashing a stunning right-footed effort into the top corner to reduce the deficit once more for Galway.

The Tribesmen pushed hard for an equaliser, but their hopes were quashed when Dayle Rooney’s free-kick was headed in by former Galway defender Patrick Hickey, sealing a 4-2 victory for Bohemians.
