Offers already on the table for 74-acre farm in West Cork

The 74-acre farm at Droumsullivan North, Bantry, is presented in three possible lots.

With strengthening land prices being increasingly felt farther west in County Cork, the sale of a 74-acre farm outside Bantry will be a very interesting one to watch.

The property in question is in the townland of Droumsullivan North, approximately 8km northeast of the famous coastal town in the heart of the Mealagh Valley.

The farm is laid out in a number of divisions and is presented in three possible lots:

Lot 1 consists of 32 acres to the south of the public road. The majority of the lands are comprised of excellent fertile ground, while the remainder is in woodland. The Mealagh River forms part of the boundary.

Lot 2 is 42 acres of good-quality and mixed-quality farmland to the north of the public road. This includes agricultural outbuildings – namely a slatted cubicle house, storage shed and silage layout.

Lot 3 is the entire holding, with an option to purchase an additional house.

“The majority of the land here is good,” says selling agent Olivia Hanafin of Sherry Fitzgerald O’Neill in Bantry. “There are about 40 acres or so of good-quality land, with about 30 acres of mixed quality.”

It is, however, something of a sleeping giant of a farm, she points out. While the land hasn’t ben utilised to its maximum potential for some time, it does present the next owner with the opportunity to do so. And with such a sizeable quantity of acres on offer, the rarity will add to the attraction.

“It was a very well-run farm years ago,” she says, “with a good reputation, so the potential is certainly there.”

Interest has certainly been good so far and the agent confirms that there have been offers on the table already — both on Lot 1 and on the entire holding.

The farm includes 27 entitlements. Opportunities to acquire substantial acreage in the Bantry area have been rare in recent years and given the evolution of land prices in West Cork, this property should be expected in the region of €10,000-€11,000/acre.
