This week, the base for steers is generally 500-505c/kg, with the factory bosses anxious to keep the price paid as close to the lower end of the range as possible.

There has been very little change in the prices offered by the factories for stock this week, but positively, any change is in the right direction for the suppliers.

The beef processors are always reluctant to concede upward movement on prices at this time of the year unless they are under pressure to secure sufficient cattle to meet their requirements.
