14 acres near Wexford town sold at auction

Gorey-based auctioneers Quinn Property continued their run of successful auctions with the sale of a 14-acre land parcel just outside Wexford Town on Friday, July 12.

As has been their practice for some time, the auction was a purely online one for the lands which are located in the townland of Mullanour, approximately 6km from the central mediaeval streets of Wexford town on the New Line Road (R733).

Giving a pre-auction price guide of €10,000/acre, auctioneer David Quinn described the lands as being of a “reasonable agricultural value” but one enhanced by “planning potential due to its road frontage”.

Bidding commenced at €100,000 (€7,100/acre) but moved quickly to €180,000 (€13,000/acre) following brisk bidding from three parties.

One brief pause and consultation later, the property was declared ‘on the market’. Bidding continued apace, and the value breached the €200,000 mark before the hammer fell on a sale price of €204,000.

“This was an excellent result,” said Mr Quinn afterwards, “With the price achieved equating to over €14,500 per acre. This auction result, together with several recent successful auctions across June and July, highlights the strength of the market as a whole.”
