Farmers are pushing for an extension to the closing date for spreading lime under the National Liming Programme.

Eamon Carroll, deputy president of the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association, said that with ground conditions remaining extremely difficult on both dry and wet land, "there is no prospect for farmers in wet areas being able to meet the March 31 deadline without doing severe damage to land".
