In 2023, domestic milk intake was estimated at almost 8.5bn litres, a decline of 366.3m litres (-4.2%) when compared with 2022, and down by 299.9m litres (-3.4%) when compared with 2021.

Milk supply to processors and co-ops was down 40.4m litres (22.4%) in January 2024 when compared with January 2023, according to new CSO figures.

The supply was estimated at 140.1m litres in January 2024, which was also down 43.2m litres (-23.6%) when compared with the same month in 2022.
