For sale with J & M O’Mahony Auctioneers (who have offices in Cork City and Macroom), a 37-acre non-residential farm just north-west of Kinsale is in an area where the interests of a number of farming disciplines converge.

The property in question is located in the townland of Curra, approximately 3.5km east of the village of Belgooly, 7.5km from Kinsale, and approximately 25km south of Cork city centre.

The selling agents describe the holding as consisting of prime quality pasture land in the main with very little waste.

“It’s all under grass,” says auctioneer John O’Mahony. “Some of the land is a little steep, but it’s very good land for the most part, and there is road frontage on two sides, so the access is very good. The land here is very dry. There’s a good fall of ground there, and it’s mostly laid out in one large paddock, so there’s almost no waste in it.”

The only non-productive part of the holding consists of a one-acre area of what the agents describe as light afforestation.

Land in this part of the world doesn’t come up for sale too often, and a handy-sized parcel such as this one will understandably attract a good deal of attention from a wide variety of suitors. There are dairy operators looking for additional land, as well as market gardeners and hobby farmers adding to the mix.

“This is a property that would be ideal for a hobby farmer or an enterprise like that,” says John, “because it’s a great location. There are nice views from the higher part of the farm over the Bandon River inlet.”

Water and electricity supplies are assured, according to the selling agents.

There are no entitlements going with the farm. The asking price is in the region of €12,000 per acre, and the first bid has already been submitted, according to John. One can expect a number of further bids over the coming weeks and months.
