Cork's Longueville Mór Cider named one of the best at Great Taste Awards

Cider from Co Cork is one of the best of the 12,772 entries which were judged over the past 75 days of judging in one of the world’s most coveted food and drink awards, the Great Taste awards.

Great Taste 3-star winners from Ireland include Longueville Mór Cider, a “sweet and well balanced” 8% ABV cider made with Dabinett and Michelin apples harvested from Longueville House Beverages’ own orchards in Co Cork.

Out of a record-breaking 12,772 entries, from more than 100 countries, 4,943 were awarded a Great Taste accolade, and a remarkable 432 are based in Ireland.

Other 3-star winners from Ireland include Elderberry and Star Anise Balsamic Vinegar from Wildwood Vinegars in Ballina, Co Mayo, which transported the judges to the festive season with a big kick of warmth from the spices; and Enniscorthy-based Killowen Farm’s “balanced, lactic and sharp” Greek Style Yogurt with Wexford Blackcurrant Compote.

As 3-star winners, they will be line for the top awards for Ireland, or even for the Great Taste 2019 Supreme Champion title, when overall winners are announced at the Great Taste Golden Fork Dinner on Sunday, September 1, in the InterContinental Park Lane Hotel, London.

The panel of judges this year included cook, writer and champion of sustainable food, Melissa Hemsley; MasterChef 2018 champion Kenny Tutt; author Olia Hercules; chef and food writer Gill Meller; food writer and stylist Kavi Thakrar from Dishoom; authors Georgina Hayden and Zoe Adjonyoh, and food buyers from Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason, Sourced Market, and Partridges.
