Hedge cutting during August has been ruled out for this year by Minister for Culture Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan. She said she will not proceed with regulations that would have allowed, on a trial basis, general roadside hedge cutting in August.

The minister was given discretionary powers under the Heritage Act 2018 to allow cutting of roadside hedges in August on a trial basis in 2019 and 2020. Ms Madigan said:
