Phone app identifies weed and disease in crops

Crop growers and agronomists in the UK have access to a new scouting smartphone app for accurately identifying weed and disease threats in their fields.

The supported crops include wheat, barley and oilseed rape.

The xarvio Scouting app helps farmers identify crop threats and calculate leaf damage, by taking a photo with a smartphone.

Furthermore, a community-based radar functionality shows farmers which threats are in their surrounding area.

BASF agronomists are demonstrating the free-to-use scouting app on farm visits.

They are also familiarising farmers with the xarvio Field Manager which will be launched in the UK in 2020.

The Field Manager is another digital solution helping farmers produce crops more efficiently and sustainably.

It enables the farmer have the status of his fields always at hand, and can download field-specific variable application maps for advice on sprays and their timing.

The xarvio Field Manager uses imaging from satellites, and combines it with agricultural data, the farmer’s knowledge, and agronomic expertise, all personalised for each farmer.

The xarvio Scouting app is available for free in the App Store and Google Play.
