ABP expands beef range for Chinese consumers on online platform

Irish meat processor ABP has extended its range of of online beef products for Chinese consumers from three to ten product lines on the JD.com online platform.

New products include Hind Quarter Golden Coin, Rib Fingers and Chuck Steak. Purchasing of beef online is one of the fastest growing trends in China.

ABP announced the new range during a visit to its Clones plant by Hopewise, the Chinese distributor which delivers to JD.Com, which has 300 million users. Minister for Business, Heather Humphreys, was also present.

Mark Goodman, MD of ABP international division, said: “Demand from Chinese consumers has been extremely positive. The time is now right for us to extend our range.” ABP developed the new products with its colleagues in China and Hopewise. Chinese consumers can use their phones to purchase ABP’s meats for direct home delivery.

Mr Sun Yong Li, chair of BJ Hopewise, said: “Irish beef is proving popular with our customers and with the Chinese consumer. They value the fact that the product is fully traceable, hormone free and is produced in green fields.

“Demand has been increasing since we launched in July. I think it is important for Ireland to push for more plant approvals to ensure increased supply as demand grows. The most important thing for JD.com is product availability.”
