Two part-time training courses on how to utilise grass better

There are two Grass10 Farmer Training courses aimed at dairy, beef and sheep farmers who want to grow more grass and manage their grass better, and improve their grazing infrastructure.

The Grazing Management Course includes on-farm practical experience managing grass all-year round, building confidence to make grazing decisions, and how to increase profit by utilising more grass.

After the course, you will have an in-depth knowledge of year-round grazing management; the capabilities and the confidence to use grazing management tools to make grazing decisions, and the skills to improve farm profits.

It’s a two-year part-time course of six to ten meetings per year with advisors, specialists, and farmer coaches.

Every ton of grass dry matter eaten per hectare is worth €105 to a drystock farmer and €173/ha to a dairy farmer.

However, the biggest limitation to grass utilisation on many Irish farms is grazing infrastructure.

The Developing Grazing Infrastructure Course is very similar to the grazing management course.

It leads to in-depth knowledge of grazing infrastructure, ability to design and build robust grazing infrastructures, and thus improve grass utilisation.

This course involves on-farm practical experience of improved grazing infrastructure; and working with other farmers to achieve higher returns from grazing infrastructure

Both courses are free for Teagasc clients.

To apply for these courses or to get more information, visit www.teagasc.ie/grass10 or contact your local Teagasc advisor.
