Invaluable tool to manage herd health
The Farm Medicine Scanner introduced in 2018 by Irish company Herdwatch was one of the silver award winners for innovation at last week’s LAMMA show in England.
The app is used on over 8,000 farms across Ireland and the UK.
With the recording of farm medicine usage representing a constant challenge for farmers, Herdwatch has come to the rescue with software and a smart barcode scanner built into their app, allowing farmers to simply scan their farm medicines using the camera on their smartphone.
The Herdwatch app recognises and identifies what exactly medicine it is.
If there is a QR code available, then the app can also automatically pull in the batch-number as well as the expiry date.
“This gives farmers the confidence that their records are 100% accurate and in the event of a farm inspection, all the farmer has to do is show the Inspector his reports from the Herdwatch app,” says Fabien Peyaud, CEO, Herdwatch.
The Farm Medicine Scanner was also an Innovation Award winner at the 2018 National Dairy Show in Millstreet, Co Cork.
Another Irish company to win a silver award winners for innovation at LAMMA was EASYFIX, for their Jupiter F cow mattress.
It is a 60mm cow mat incorporating an integrated brisket board at the front and pillow on two sides.
The Ballinasloe, Co Galway-based company claims this is a ‘world first’ and ensures optimum positioning of the cow when lying in a cubicle.
It has a 45mm layer which creates a cushioned top surface. The back has a sloped and non-abrasive profile so that animal waste is pushed into the passageway.
Cows can stretch their front legs, for maximum comfort.
It is suitable for DIY installation and all cubicle sizes.
To adjust the width, spacers are available.
The mat comes complete with a 10-year warranty.
