Ornua is celebrating success after winning 14 awards (3 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze for cheese and 1 bronze award for salted butter) at the Global Cheese Awards in Frome, Somerset.

“We would also like to extend our warmest congratulations to Ornua Co-op members Carbery, Dairygold and Glanbia, who picked up a range of awards for their fantastic Irish cheese.”
In the Irish cheddar section, Ornua scored a 1-2-3 of gold for Kerrygold Mature silver for Kerrygold Extra Mature, and bronze for Kerrygold Vintage. Another Irish winner was Wicklow Farmhouse Cheese Ltd in the Irish Cheese Section, with their Wicklow Bán, with the silver award going to Cashel Farmhouse Cheesemakers For Cashel Blue, and Bronze to The Little Milk Co For their Irish Organic Cheddar. Wicklow Farmhouse Cheese Ltd got a Bronze award for their Wicklow Blue in the Blue Cheese section.
Wins for Ornua Co-operative Limited included the International Cheddars section and Mature Cheddar (Non-UK) Both for Kerrygold Mature. The Extra Mature Cheddar (Non-UK) Was monopolised by the Irish, with the Gold award For Ornua Co-operative Limited’s Kerrygold Extra Mature; Silver for their Kerrygold Extra Mature; and bronze for Dairygold Food Ingredients (UK) Ltd’s Irish White Extra Mature Cheddar. However, the prestigious title of Global Cheese Champion at Frome went to Hommage Matured, a premium aged Dutch goat cheese, and the Global Cheese Champion Reserve award went to First Milk Cheese Company Haverfordwest for their Pembrokeshire Vintage Cheddar.
The Supreme Cheese Champion award went to UK producer Curds & Croust For Russet Squire, a Cider washed, semi-soft cheese, with the Reserve award for Wensleydale Dairy Products Blue cheese.
