Teagasc unveils annual student award winners

Conor Coakley, a level six dairy programme student at Teagasc Clonakilty Agricultural College, has won the Teagasc/FBD Insurance Student of the Year award.

Conor Coakley, a level six dairy programme student at Teagasc Clonakilty Agricultural College, has won the Teagasc/FBD Insurance Student of the Year award.

He is enrolled in Teagasc Professional Diploma in Dairy Farm Management. A native of Co Cork, he says he intends to establish a dairy herd on the family farm.

First runner-up award went to Hugh Massey, Co Limerick, a student at the agri college in Pallaskenry. Hugh also completed the level six dairy programme; he is co-managing the dairy herd on the family farm.

The second runner-up prize went to Darren Walsh, Co Mayo, who studied at Teagasc Ballina Centre. Darren combines farming with an off-farm job.

This year’s other student finalists were: Debbie Sunderland, Co Wexford; David Lowe, Tipperary; Terence Cronin, Co Cork; Kevin Byrne, Co Leitrim; Damien McClearn, Galway; Gavin Canning, Co Mayo; Tommy McLaughlin, Co Donegal; Jason Mullin, Co Galway; Gavin Brady, Co Cavan; Brian Kelly, Co Clare; Barry Brady, Co Roscommon; and Bryan Lanigan, Kilkenny.
