A stunning coastal location is the setting for a 50-acre non-residential farm close to the seaside village of Guileen, near the industrial centre of Whitegate in East Cork, writes Conor Power.

According to selling agent Adrianna Hegarty of Midleton-based auctioneers Hegarty Properties, this is a high-quality parcel of land that is in one block and laid out in two large fields, one in pasture and the other in barley.

“It’s good, dry land,” said Adrianna. “There’s very good farming land in that area.”

The area is a mixture of intensive farming and a variety of coastal-based tourism activities. Within a short distance of the clean, well-worked fields are businesses such as a surf schools, campsites and holiday villages, while heavy industry is not far away either, most particularly at nearby Whitegate and across Cork Harbour at Ringaskiddy.

The land is easily accessed via a laneway leading directly from the public road, just opposite the Guileen Arms Pub, while electricity and mains water are available on site. The land runs down to the seafront, according to the agents, ending in a cliff, just to the west of the public beach and slipway.

There are also entitlements going with the property — something of a rarity in the current market — with further details available from the selling agents.

As for the market value, it will be interesting to see what it will fetch in the final shakedown. This is a strong agricultural area with easy access to multiple markets on its doorstep, with land in demand for farming and other activities. The primary interest will surely be agricultural, but with a location adjacent to a tourism-friendly village such as this, it would be foolhardy to rule out the eventuality of a tourism project of some sort in the future. In the meantime, the selling agents have wisely set the price guide at the very reasonable sum of €10,000/acre.
