Prestigious awards for ABP Food Group and Carbery

ABP Food Group has become the first food processor in the world to achieve triple certification to the Carbon Trust Standard for the third consecutive time.

The Carbon Trust Standard certification is awarded to organisations that can demonstrate effective action to tackle their environmental impact, and verify reductions in carbon emissions, water use and waste output.

Dean Holroyd, Group Technical and Sustainability Director at ABP Food Group, said: “In 2014, ABP Food Group was the first food processor globally to achieve this prestigious recognition for the progress made on sustainability across our business. To now achieve it three times in a row is tangible proof of our industry leading standards and the real progress we have made in reducing our environmental footprint.”

ABP says its beef processing facilities at Ellesmere in Shropshire, England, are the world’s most sustainable.

The site generates all of its own heating and hot water needs and up to 100% of its electricity requirements from bio-fuel produced as a by-product of beef processing.

Last year, all of ABP’s Irish sites received the international energy management standard ISO 50001 in recognition of processes to improve energy efficiency.

Meanwhile, Carbery Group has received an NSAI Award of Distinction from the National Standards Authority of Ireland in recognition of its long standing international certification.

Carbery was honoured for achieving and maintaining the highest level of certification for key international business standards at its facility in Ballineen, Co Cork, over the last two decades.

Carbery Group Quality Manager Paddy Barrett said: “We are delighted to receive an NSAI Award of Distinction. At Carbery, maintaining high quality standards is at the core of our business model, as we continue to provide sustainably produced food and dairy ingredients.”

Carbery was among 20 companies to receive an NSAI Award of Distinction.
