Macra: Members gear up for a great Rally weekend
The Macra Annual Conference, better known as “The Rally”, will take place in Limerick from October 28 to 31.
Each year, The Rally attracts thousands of Macra members from all over the country, with young people participating in farm walks and various competitions, as well as enjoying live music and entertainment and, of course, attending the annual young farmers conference.
There will be many activities over the weekend, including competitive, social and informative aspects to cater for a wide variety of interests.
Dairy and beef tours of two farms in Co Limerick will be offered, while the young farmers conference will explore topics to the fore of the Irish agricultural industry and include presentations from key speakers.
Other weekend events will include a rock stars themed fancy dress party and a number of competition finals, including the Irish Farmers Journal Know Your Ag quiz, and the hugely popular stockjudging competitions.
A banquet dinner will be held on Sunday night to round off the weekend.
There will be music by Jackie Chan, Traffic, and Fiesta followed by a DJ until late each night.
This year’s event is sponsored by GVM Group, and will also include the Club of the Year competition.
The aim of the competition is to recognise and reward the hard work and commitment of clubs and members.
The six clubs taking part in this year’s final are East Laois, Maudabawn, Ballinascarthy, Awbeg, Donoughmore and Carrigaline.
The Best New Member Award will be presented as part of the competition to one individual Macra member who is deemed by his/her club to have made a significant contribution to its development during their first year of membership.
The Best Emerging Club Award will acknowledge the achievements of newly established Macra clubs.
Limerick Macra is in the process of putting the finishing touches to the finer details of The Rally and look forward to showcasing all that Limerick has to offer.
