Macra news: Niamh and Siobhán fly Macra flag at European youth event

Macra members have had their say at a European youth conference.

In May, two European wide organisations: Rural Youth Europe and Youth Express Network, joined forces to host a week-long event that brought together some 33 participants from 20 countries to share ideas on issues relevant to young people.

The study session was titled ‘Dream It Loud’, the aim of which was to discuss how to build an inclusive society for urban and rural youth.

The Irish delegation was represented by Macra members Niamh Mooney and Siobhán Gallagher.

Throughout the week, they took part in workshops and excursions designed around issues of human and social rights.

One of the primary aims of the workshops was to enhance young people’s ability to advocate for improved access to human and social rights in their own countries.

The workshops were very intense and focused on empowering people with knowledge, providing a space where they could learn from each other, arrive at solutions as a team, and share individual experiences in a safe environment.

The information and ideas exchanged in Strasbourg have been brought back to 20 nations and shared within organisations.

Both Niamh and Siobhán would strongly encourage any individual who has an interest in attending a European event or is offered the opportunity to work with Rural Youth Europe or Youth Express Network to grab it with both hands.
