Carbery milk quality award winner announced

Michael and Marguerite Crowley, from Bauravilla Upper, Skibbereen, Co Cork, have won the the overall prize at the 2016 Carbery Quality Milk Awards.

The Crowleys milk 150 cows with a 16-unit milking parlour on their 74-hectare farm.

They were also regional winners for Drinagh Co-op, to which they supply milk for processing in Carbery’s Ballineen facility.

Carbery chair, Dermot O’Leary, said: “Michael and his family have put a huge amount of work into their farm and the quality of milk they are producing is testament to that.”

Carbery’s other regional winners were Garrett and Catherine O’Neill, Bandon Co-op; Norman and Elma Perrott, Barryroe Co-op; and Robert and Shirley Shannon, Lisavaird Co-op.

The 2014 overall winners, Kieran and Catherine O’Sullivan, Goleen, were recognised nationally for farming the Best Quality Milk in Ireland when they won the overall 2015 NDC & Kerrygold Quality Milk Award.

A farm walk will held on their farm on Friday next, June 17.
