Machinery and Equipment: Field day in the grass and muck for machine lovers

It will be held at Gurteen College on Thursday, May 12.

Tickets have been for sale online for this year’s event, and demand would suggest a growth from the attendance of the 2014 attendance of 9,500.

The focus at FTMTA Grass & Muck is very much on working machinery with ongoing demonstrations throughout the day in the grass harvesting, reseeding, silage pit, slurry spreading and farm yard manure spreading areas.

As well as 40 manufacturers and importers working in the large demonstration areas, there will be around 100 non-demonstrating exhibitors in a trade stand area.

The demonstration plots will give farmers and contractors a unique opportunity to assess the latest technologies in silage and grass management machinery in operation in one site.

The Health and Safety Authority will run farm safety demonstrations throughout the day, highlighting the dangers around these operations on farms, at what is a very busy time of year.

There are so many other highlights planned.

  • The RECK Grass Silage Spreader will be in action on the silage pit.

This front or rear tractor mounted roller is PTO-driven, and breaks up lumps and spreads the crop in an even layer, to ensure better compaction and consolidation.

  • On the tractor front, the event will be the first opportunity for Irish customers to see the new New Holland T5 and T6 tractors. Also on show will be the company’s FR650 Forager Cruiser, T7.190 tractor, RB150 Roll Belt baler, LM6.35 Elite telehandler, BB1290 Big Baler, and T7.315 Heavy Duty Tractor.
  • Prodig Attachments will also be at the pit, demonstrating their newest model Folding Grass Fork.
  • John Deere’s new top-of-the-range 845hp 8800i self- propelled forage harvester with HarvestLab constituent sensing, triple mower-conditioner, and 6M & 6R Series Stage IV tractors will be demonstrated.
  • Mayo manufacturer, McHale, will have a large display. The Pro-Glide mower will be one of their highlights.
  • Tom Shaw Farm Machinery will be exhibiting the Belair Self-loading grazer and Staltech Disc Harrows.
  • Farmhand will have their powerful Krone ZX wagon range at the event. They boast the largest intake of any wagon ever produced. It is designed for dual use, self-loading or harvester loaded.
  • The exciting, Irish-designed Hi-Spec mower will also be working at the event. The trailed butterfly unit will be given its first chance to impress many contractors who never saw it in action before.

Their Kompactor trailer will be on demo in the transportation section.

  • On the reseeding front, the disc drill Erth Agriseeder will be showcased.
  • The slurry spreading section will boast the best of Irish engineering as well as overseas manufacturers.
  • Tickets are available at the gate for €15.
