Macra news: Festival set to put the men of Macra in focus
Mayor of Kilkenny, Joe Malone, officially launched the highly-anticipated Macra competition at the Springhill Court Hotel, Kilkenny, the venue for the event.
The festival, organised by Kilkenny Macra and now in its 11th year, will take place from April 22 to 24.
The competition will see the men of Macra take centre stage, competing in a range of fun activities and interviews.
This year’s winner will follow in the footsteps of Terelton Macra man Noel McSweeney, who took the title last year.
A strong Cork contingency was on hand to cheer on the Muskerry winner at the gala celebrations last year.
Speaking at the launch of this year’s competition, John Connolly, chairman of the Board of Kilkenny, Carlow and District Farm Relief Services, commented on the strong bond between Macra na Feirme and the Farm Relief Services and the pleasure that they have in sponsoring such a successful festival.
Mr Connolly spoke very highly of the work and dedication by the Kilkenny Macra committee to organise such a successful festival.
Siobhán Woods, chair person of the Mr Personality Festival 2016, thanked the mayor for launching the festival.
She expressed gratitude to the board of Farm Relief Services for its continued vital sponsorship of the festival and the Springhill Court Hotel and its staff for its commitment and support over the past number of years.

There is only a limited number of tickets available for the banquet, which can be booked by contacting Dawn in the Springhill Court Hotel between 9am and 5pm on 056 7721122.
A weekend ticket for Macra members, including entry on Friday and Saturday night (after the banquet), is priced at €20.
There is an excellent line-up of entertainers planned, with Deuces Wild and a DJ on Friday night, and Hot Fuss and a DJ on Saturday night.
Entry fee for the Friday night is €10, while tickets for the Saturday night informal gala banquet are €30.
Tickets for the Saturday night disco are €15.
Also this year, Kilkenny will host the national debating semi-final in the Aspect Hotel on Saturday April 23.
Meanwhile, the hurling and camogie inter-county blitz will take place in St Kieran’s College.
The National NDC volleyball finals will take place in the Watershed on Sunday, April 24.
