Intense competition between UK retailers who pocketed 2015 meat windfalls

The UK multiple retail sector pocketed windfalls from cheaper livestock last year.

Data from Quality Meat Scotland, the organisation which supports the Scottish red meat sector, shows the average 2015 UK farmgate price for beef cattle was 6% lower than in 2014.

But the average retail price for beef was unchanged, except for mince prices falling 2%.
