He said the Foodwise 2025 strategy alone will increase exports by 85% to 19 billion by 2025, which will create 23,000 new jobs in rural Ireland.”
On a weekend farm visit to Co Carlow, he accused Fianna Fáil of deserting rural Ireland.
He said farmers are best positioned to benefit from Fine Gael’s plan to completely abolish the USC and end discrimination against the self-employed in the tax system, and that the average farming family has already seen tax bills fall by €800 a year under his outgoing government.
“The continued growth of our world class agriculture sector is an essential part of our plan to keep recovery going for rural Ireland,” said the Taoiseach.
He said Fine Gael will pursue new business opportunities to help post offices thrive again, and will ensure patients continue to have access to GP services, especially in remote rural areas.
