Macra members to make a change in Strasbourg

EYE 2016 will include a large variety of activities run under the motto “Together we can make a change.”
It will take place in the European Parliament in Strasbourg on May 20 and 21.
During the event, participants from across Europe will exchange ideas and perspectives on youth-related issues, develop innovative solutions to crucial questions for the future, and meet with European decision-makers.
The event will also provide an opportunity to experience the rich cultural diversity within the EU through the staging of various artistic performances and spectacles.
Attendees will have a chance to take part in political debates and workshops and listen to high-profile speakers from the business world and civil society.
There will also be indoor and outdoor concerts and performances.
The event will be centred around five thematic areas, which are core issues for the future of young Europeans:
War and peace: Perspectives for a peaceful planet;
Apathy or participation: Agenda for a vibrant democracy
Exclusion or access: Crackdown on youth unemployment;
Stagnation or innovation: Tomorrow’s world of work;
Collapse or success: New ways for a sustainable Europe.
As follow-up, a report with the ideas discussed during the event will be made available to all members of the European Parliament.
Former EYE participants will also have the opportunity to present the most concrete ideas produced by young people to a number of parliamentary committees and receive feedback from members.
Those interested in attending must be a Macra member aged between 17 and 30, with a valid passport.
Partially subsidised by the European Parliament, the trip (flights and accommodation and half board) will cost €175.
The closing date for applications is Friday, January 15.
The trip is limited to the first paid-up 20 members.
Where the trip is over- subscribed, applications will be limited to two Macra members per county/region.
Anyone interested should send a letter outlining their reasons for wishing to take part to Audrey McDonnell, Macra na Feirme, Irish Farm Centre, Bluebell, Dublin 12, including the €175 payment or email amcdonnell@macra.ie.
