SlurryKat's mobile 'nurse' tanker is a big hit

Building mobile tankers that hold up to 33,000 gallons has become a new business for Northern Ireland firm, SlurryKat, based in Waringstown, Co Armagh.

They are responding to increased demand in the Nordic countries for a solution to problems in spreading digestate from biogas and anaerobic digestion plants.

SlurryKat’s holding tanks can be used as a buffer between field spreading systems and slurry transporters.

Biogas plant operators and contractors encountered problems connecting haulage tankers to spreading systems in the field, with spillages sometimes damaging crops.

The Co Armagh firm was already supplying umbilical systems of up to 3km in length.

Spreading lands are up to 30 miles away from biogas plants, requiring articulated road trucks to haul digestate to the roadside for transfer to umbilical systems, which proved a messy operation, interrupting slurry spreading.

Now, the digestate can be discharged into SlurryKat holding tanks without affecting umbilical systems or interrupting spreading.

SlurryKat can build tanks to sizes from 40 to 150 cubic metres, with commercial, hydraulic-lifting braked axles, level indicators, top access hatch, ladders, venting systems, and LED road-lighting.
