McHale launches front and rear mower range
The front mower design places the centre of gravity as close as possible to the tractor, for responsiveness to uneven terrain, helped by integrated suspension which allows the mowing unit to move independent of the front linkage.
When faced with inclining or declining ground conditions, the cutter bar automatically inclines upwards over bumps, or slants downwards into a dip.
At standard settings, the cutter bar has a 500mm range of automatic adjustment to ground contours, and a left-to- right pivot range of 17 degrees.
Patented active spring compensator technology evens out mower cutter bar ground pressure regardless of the working height.
Maximum cutter bar clearance for headland turns and when in transport are among the design features.
When raised, the mower has a clearance of over 600mm to the bottom of the cutter bar (it varies according to tractor type and tyres). Stabiliser stops keep the mower centred during transport.
The new rear mowers come standard with the patented ground-following technology, break-back protection, hydraulic ground pressure control, and heavy duty bed design.
Ground adaption technology allows an arc of movement from left to right and forward and back movement of the cutter bar.
If the mower hits an immovable object, mechanical break back is triggered.
But the ground adaption technology allows the bed to move back and up if it encounters smaller obstacles, which saves time and maximises throughput.
Rear suspension springs react instantly to ground contours, even at high ground speeds, for mowing rough or undulating terrain.
The rear mower cutter bar ground pressure can be set from the tractor cab, and isolated from the tractor hydraulics with a mechanical tap.
For transportation, the mower folds vertically behind the centre point of the tractor.
Transport height is reduced by positioning the mower bed at a 110 degree angle, also preferred for even weight distribution and transport stability — while leaving the driver with a clear rear-view mirror view.
The Pro Glide cutter bar has a rounded low profile front edge to glide smoothly over the ground, for clean forage separation and reduced soil contamination even in lodged crops.
Each mowing disc has a protective shear safety mechanism to protect the drive.
Blades are free to spin 360 degrees for self-cleaning and no fouling on the neighbouring knives. The knives orbit with a generous overlap, for a clean cut and smooth flow of cut material to the rear.
The standard equipped steel tine conditioner is adjustable between 700rpm and 1000rpm, and is designed for fast, uniform wilting.
When a tine hits a foreign object, it pivots out of the way.
The conditioner is driven by a mechanical gearbox.
