Agriculture ministers from Spain, France, Italy, and Portugal will meet on Friday to discuss issues facing European farming ahead of next Monday’s crunch EU Council of Ministers meeting in Brussels.
Ministers’ early talks to discuss issues facing European farming

Spain’s Garcia Tejerina, France’s Stephane Le Foll, Italy’s Maurizio Martina, and Portugal’s Assuncao Cristas have agreed to meet in Brussels in a bid to agree a shared strategy.

French and Spanish farmers’ unions have written a joint letter to their ministers outlining the income crises faced by farmers in their countries.

They warn that urgent measures are needed to avoid the closure of thousands of French and Spanish dairy farms.

Spain recently unveiled plans to give a €300 per cow grant of direct aid to ease the pressure on farms which are currently selling their milk at a loss.
