Neighbours gather together to celebrate all things community

Macra na Feirme’s Know Your Neighbour Weekend with Calor brought hundreds of neighbours together as groups across the country celebrated all things community.

The initiative saw some 50 registered events take place nationwide, with many more organised for the remainder of summer.

Know Your Neighbour — now in its 10th year — aims to encourage more interaction between neighbours.

Calor, along with Cork’s Freemount Macra, hosted a family fun day in the village, featuring a barbecue cooking demo with TV chef Catherine Fulvio. The free event was a great way to kick off the initiative.

Macra national president Seán Finan said: “Know Your Neighbour weekend was a fantastic success in its 10th year, not least because of the support of our sponsors, Calor.

“With their support, we were able to provide every registered event with a free pack to help them run their event. We were also in a position to host our own national event with Freemount Macra which more than 140 people benefited from.

“It’s not too late to host an event in your community — they can take place all summer.”

Calor CEO Tom O’Carroll added: “Events like the national family fun day are what this initiative is all about. We would like to wish everyone the best of luck with their Know Your Neighbour events throughout the rest of the summer.”
