The first of the 25km of tracks are being laid this week on the 700-acre site which has been the venue for the past two years.

Volkswagen is partnering with the National Ploughing Championship as the motoring sponsor for the fifth year in a row.

It will supply a range of vehicles for the off-road preparations and the site works, and will provide a vital link between the exhibitions, competitions, demonstrations and car parks.

The event, celebrating the 84th year of the championship, is expected to attract 200,000 visitors from September 22 to 24.

Over 1,300 exhibitors have booked space at the event, showcasing quality livestock and a vast range of goods.

Managing director Anna May McHugh said that they were delighted to be staging the event in Ratheniska again this year.

Feedback from the landowners, the local community and the wider public, following the previous events that were held on the site, had been very positive and all were incredibly enthusiastic to see a return.
