President praises Macra ‘neighbour’ initiative

An initiative by Macra na Feirme to encourage interaction between neighbours has been praised by President Michael D Higgins.

In a message to Macra for ‘Know Your Neighbour Weekend’, on Saturday and Sunday, he said Irish people pride themselves on their strong sense of community.

“These are characteristics which still define us a people and as a society. In a modern and increasingly urbanised world, however, it can be very easy for neighbours to remain strangers and for people moving to new communities to become isolated and alone.
