Peter Kingston is dairy champ again, at his local Belgooly show
The win at his local show recalled his past successes, including the National Dairy Show at Millstreet, where he showed the champion in 1995, 1996, 1997, and 2004 — and famously at the Agribex International show in Brussels in 2004, as joint owner of Quintana Melissa Grand.
Ricky Barrett from Ballinhassig showed the Belgooly champion maiden heifer and best Friesian heifer calf; John O’Sullivan, Whitechurch, showed the best Friesian heifer in milk.
Eustace and Deirdre Burke from Carrigaline showed the champion beef animal, Shankill Lady Helton. John Cahalane, Skibbereen, showed the champion beef calf.
Kieran O’Gorman won the champion brood mare and champion foal awards. Rosemary Connors showed the champion hunter and working hunter, Barncurra Maximus Meridue. Declan Fahy from Clonakilty showed Irishman, the champion young horse award and supreme horse champion. Dermot Horgan showed the champion led pony, Renelles Royal Enchantment. Judy Quirke from Tipperary showed the champion working hunter pony, Tybroughney Cloud. Anna Kennedy, also Tipperary, showed the mini pony champion, Barkway Fanfare. Belinda Johnson from Limerick showed Honeypound Jack the Lad, the champion ridden pony and the supreme pony champion.
Caroline Deasy from Riverstick had the best individual baking exhibit.
The show committee paid tribute to Show President Ernest Splaine who died shortly after being re-elected at the AGM in March.
We gave the wrong results for last week’s Greenvale Champion Beef Pairs at Midleton Show. It was won by the Belgian Blue of Tim O’Donovan of Dunmanway, with the reserve going to the Simmental of Adrian Bateman of Riverstick.
