Festive fundraisers and competition wins
The Glanmire Macra capers cast, ‘Fliuch n’ Wet’, reached new heights in the club’s history when they were awarded the Cork County Capers title for the first time, having finished in third place last year.
The club’s Daniel O’ Regan was awarded best director and cast member Dermot Sheahan won best male performance.
Banteer Macra were runners-up with Carrigaline Macra and Terelton rounding off a wonderful night of entertainment in Carrigtwohill.
Glanmire will compete next month in the national semi-final stage in Mallow.
Meanwhile, Meath man, Derek Healy, from Trim Macra got an early Christmas present when he won the All-Ireland Welding competition, sponsored by Griffin Welding and Engineering Supply Centre, Midleton, Co Cork.
Jeremiah Coakley, Kilmeen Macra, Carbery, was awarded second place. Shane Caulfield from Cushinstown Macra, Wexford, was third. The event took place at Cork Training Centre in Bishopstown, with 14 competitors battling it out for the prize of a welder, and a place on the Macra prizewinners’ trip next year.
Meanwhile, Freemount and Mitchelstown will be hoping for success on Sunday night in the regional senior debating final. Freemount members will also be singing in local nursing homes on Tuesday.
Berrings members will be in fine voice on Tuesday and Wednesday in Centra, Tower, where they will be carol singing in aid of Marymount Hospice.
Donoughmore Macra also lent their support to charity when members attended a Christmas networking event at the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind Headquarters. The club’s Christmas Table Quiz will take place in Barry’s Bar on December 28 at 9pm. Tables of four are €20. Proceeds will go to Freemount Community Development Association.
