UK customers increase beef spend

UK consumers increased their spend on beef 7.5% in the three-month period to mid-September, compared to the corresponding period in 2013.

Expenditure on beef totalled £438m (€558m) compared to £408m in the 2013 period, with a 3% retail price increase year-on-year also boosting the trade in the UK — Ireland’s main export market.

The latest data from the Kantar agency has also indicated an improvement in household penetration, with 68.2% of shoppers purchasing beef compared to 67.1% 12 months previously.
